With the popularity of the LS engine, we have seen some crazy LS swaps all over the spectrum. From domestics, exotics, imports, and even boats, no vehicle is sacred in this engine swap game. You can name just about any vehicle and odds are someone has already swapped it, is currently doing it, or is scheming it over a few cold drinks.
Just when we thought we had seen it all,
Hawk Engineering Inc. decided to pull a fast one; they’ve built an LS-swapped RZR side-by-side with an LS powerplant. The RZR is not going to have just any LS — no sir. Hawk has utilized the
Chevrolet Performance 525 horsepower LS3. One would think this would be way more power than you could ever need, right? Not in this case! The car will also have twin turbos and a sand car trans-axle that is rated at over 1,000 horsepower.
As you can see, Hawk Engineering Inc. wasted no time in getting the 4-seat Polaris RZR stripped down and ready to go. The twin-turbo LS3 is sure to wake this side-by-side up with tire-shredding performance.
Due to the sketchiness of this build, the guys opted to use a 4-seat buggy for the longer wheelbase. This is an effort to try and calm down the high-horse side-by-side at wide open throttle. According to Hawk Engineering, you can build a two-seater as well, but expect a gnarly ride. With the the shorter wheelbase and 30-inch tires, 400 horsepower is already a handful from the two-seat machine.
As cool as this build is, the turbo LS3 RZR is not even the most exciting part! Hawk is planning on releasing an LS conversion kit that will allow you to convert your RZR into a monster in your own garage. While the details of this conversion are not clear yet, it will require the removal of the front-wheel drive and make the car rear-wheel-drive-only. This setup will be more at home in the sand dunes or pre-running.
