PRI 2025: No More Core Hunting For Dry Sump LS Oil Pumps

It is a strange time to be an LS7 enthusiast because while the engine remains a legend, General Motors keeps discontinuing the parts required to keep it alive. The recent cancellation of the factory dry sump oil pump left a void in the market that had engine builders nervous about the future of the platform. Katech Engineering has been developing LS engines since the beginning, and they used PRI 2025 to launch the TrackFlow High-Capacity Scavenge oil pump. This is the fix that owners of the C6 Z06 and Grand Sport have been waiting for since the OEM supply dried up.

A Massive Jump In Efficiency

Mark Rapson, the owner of Katech Engineering, described the new pump as an evolution rather than a simple replacement. The engineering team focused heavily on the scavenge efficiency to fix the shortcomings of the original GM design. The TrackFlow pump moves significantly more volume on the scavenge side, boasting a 62 percent increase over the LS3 specs and a 44 percent jump over the LS7. By evacuating the crankcase faster, the pump reduces oil aeration which is a leading cause of bearing failure in these engines. Keeping the oil free of air bubbles is critical when you are spinning a 7.0-liter V8 to 7,000 rpm on a race track.

No More Hunting For Junk Cores

The other major advantage of the TrackFlow pump is that it eliminates the headache of dealing with core exchanges. In the past, high-performance upgrades often required you to send in a factory casting for porting, but good cores are getting impossible to find. Katech Engineering builds these from scratch using premium billet aluminum, so you just order the part and install it. There is no downtime waiting for a rebuild and no risk of using a fatigued housing. Each pump is fully documented and blueprinted before it leaves the facility, giving you the peace of mind that your oiling system is up to the task of protecting a high-dollar engine build.
