How does one improve upon the performance of a car like the Chevy Camaro Z/28? After all, GM has already thrown countless dollars and untold amounts of engineering talent at making the Z/28 a corner-carving, rip-roaring, no-frills sports car. How can anybody hope to improve on an already incredible car?

Well there’s one thing GM didn’t do for the Z/28, and that’s give it any forced induction. That left the door open for Hennessey Performance Engineering to step in and amp things up, cracking the horsepower dial from 505 all the way up to 800 with their supercharged HPE800 kit for the Z/28. Of course this requires some serious internal upgrades to the 7.0 liter, 505 horsepower V8 GM stuffed under the hood, in the form of forged aluminum pistons, forged steel rods, as well as upgraded valvetrain parts. Ported cylinder heads, high flow fuel injectors and an intercooler all help the 2.9 liter supercharger system operate at maximum efficiency and power. You’ll also need a dual disc clutch upgrade for the transmission to handle the extra power.

Now not only can the Z/28 set the pace around the road course, but it can handle just about anything at the drag strip too. As if 800 horsepower isn’t enough, Hennessey also offers a 1,000 horsepower upgrade package, nearly doubling the output of the already-potent V8. It’s the car of our dreams, and the stuff of nightmares for anybody driving anything less.
