It’s fairly common knowledge that Wilwood Brakes are some of the best in the business. Wilwood has long been known as a maker of “race car” brakes, and they’ve had a presence in nearly every kind of racing from NASCAR, to NHRA, to drifting. They also have a full catalog of brake packages for our favorite muscle cars, and in this video we get a full installation guide that shows the parts and process involved in installing front and rear 14-inch Wilwoods onto a fourth generation Camaro Z/28.
The video begins with the front brakes, and while the procedure on the rear is not identical, it is very similar. It all begins with assembling the unique rotor and hat assembly, and the video gives the proper torque specifications to do so. The next step is to remove the factory rotors, followed by installation of the new Wilwood caliper bracket. Special attention should be paid to this step as spacers and shims are required for proper alignment of the caliper. Subsequently, new Wilwood brake lines are installed in place of the old factory flex lines, and the new hat and rotor assembly goes on next. Last, the new caliper is bolted into place, but this is another area that requires proper shimming to ensure everything is nicely centered. The rear brake installation, which the video shows in detail, follows a nearly identical procedure to that of the front.
