There’s no getting away from the fact that drag racing is a potentially dangerous sport. Accidents happen all the time, and we can only rely on our skill and safety equipment to keep us safe in the event of a crash.
Unfortunately, you never know when it’s going to happen and it’s up to the the driver and his team to make sure everything’s in order before a pass. However things do manage to slip through the cracks as evidenced by this video of a crash that happened just a few days ago.
We ran across the video of a Trans Am WS6 and a Fox Body Mustang LX racing at a dragstrip, and while the specifics are sketchy, what we can tell you from the video is that the driver’s side t-top appears to have launched off the Trans Am, and flew into the Mustang.
We watched the video ourselves several times, and while many people who were in the grandstands think the Mustang crashed as well, it looks more to us like the owner of the Ford slammed on his breaks to stop and help the driver of the Pontiac.
As a lot of F-body owners know, it is fairly easy to not fully lock down your T-top latch, and a good bump, a heavy gust of wind, or especially a hard launch at the dragstrip could send it flying into the air. Your author personally has seen this happen more than once.
Hopefully both drivers are OK, and neither of he cars were damaged too badly.
