Video: VH Commodore Packing LS3 Heat

Most early '80s Commodores don't have modern LS power. This one does.

The early ’80s were an interesting time for auto manufacturers. The Big Three in America were struggling with building EPA-certifiable performance cars, and it’s still considered to be the ultimate low point for enthusiast cars to this day.

Things weren’t much different in Australia, although Holden was then marketing an SS version of its VH Commodore sedan. Built between 1981 and 1984, it could of been had with either a 4.2L or 5.0L V8 engine, but the car you’re looking isn’t an SS. It’s a standard 6-cylinder version – or at least it was.

These days, this particular VH relies on something a bit more substantial for motivation. Namely, a 6.2L LS3. We ran across this video over on the FullBoost.com.au Facebook page, and it doesn’t fail to impress. The video gets plenty of beauty shots of the car, including the interior, engine, and on the dyno.

The Commodore belongs to someone simply known as Clayton, and the part of the video that depicts the Holden on the dyno was filmed at Pro Flow Fabrication’s dyno day. It might not be the most aggressive looking car this side of the pond, but that’s partly why we dig it.

It has the sleeper look that you just don’t see enough of these days, and it’s a look we would totally rock if it were ours. In the meantime, if you’re from the Land of Oz, we would keep an eye out for this killer creation if we were you. It might just eat your lunch.

The overall look of the car is pretty killer, and if you had this in America, people would probably think it was some lame-duck, ancient, Japanese sedan. Oh how wrong they would be!
