Granatelli Motorsport’s New Compound Boost LSX Makes Nearly 1,200 HP

Compounding is a very good thing. Earning compound interest on your money will make you rich faster, and if you compound boost on your LSX it’s a colossal amount of horsepower and torque that you’ll be earning. Compound boosting, sometimes referred to as “twin-charging” is simple; you use a turbo (or turbos as the case may be) to force air into a supercharger, which pushes the twice-compressed air right into the combustion chambers.

In this video from YouTube, we get to watch as our friends at Granatelli Motorsports test their new Compound Boost LSX motor on the dyno. The guys at Granatelli tell us that the engine is a 427 cubic inch LSX running their twin-turbo kit for the 5th Gen Camaro SS, that is blowing all that boost right down the throat of a Magnacharger twin-screw supercharger. All in all, the compound system effortlessly yields 17 PSI of boost.

The video is so drama-free that you might have a hard time believing that this mill makes 1,180 horsepower at 6,200 RPM, and an Earth-shifting 1,257 pound feet of torque all the way down at 2,500 RPM. This thing is such a torque-monster that it was making over 1,000 pound feet of torque from 2,500 RPM all the way out to 5,800 RPM. You might expect an engine that wicked to want to jump off the dyno stand and consume an innocent bystander, but Granatelli makes producing this kind of astronomical power look down-right easy.
