Lashway Motorsports Dives into Budget LS1 Camaro Build

When it comes to building the ultimate car, you can spend well over an average person’s yearly income. While that would be nice, most of us just have enough trouble footing the bill for necessities, let alone on a project car. Lashway Motorsports, one of the many sponsors on LS1Tech.com, understands this and decided to do a budget build for their latest project. How’s $10,000 sound for a complete drag strip-dominating LS1 Camaro project, including the price of the car? Count us in!

The Camaro is a ‘98 Z28. Under the name Project BackLASH, the Camaro is being transformed into the ultimate drag racing car by selling some stock and performance parts that were on the car, using parts Lashway had laying around, and sticking as close to a $10,000 budget as possible.

The Camaro is maintaining its original LS1 engine with stock crank, pistons, heads and rods. The engine has been equipped with Katech rod bolts, ARP head bolts, Lashway 3-piece custom pushrods, an IWIS timing chain, ported oil pump and GM MLS gaskets. A Super Victor cathedral port intake, Dual Stage Nitrous Express plate and Scorpion 2,000 CFM throttle body have also been fitted to the engine. Some of the bigger performance parts added to the Camaro are a Monster Stage 5 Clutch, custom narrowed rear end, chromoly 3-inch driveshaft, velocity stack and a Liberty faceplated T56 transmission.

The Camaro has also been fitted with a complete cage, Wolfe Mini Tub Kit and VFN Sunoco-style extended hood. With about $3,000 worth of parts sold off the car, the Lashway crew decided to splurge on BMR adjustable upper and lower front control arms as well as Strange Double Adjustable coil overs, although Lashway does acknowledge that these would not be needed if someone was really sticking to a budget. On their last update, the Lashway crew had just received Wolfe Racecraft shocks for the Camaro.

Although the build is still underway, the Lashway crew seems to have gotten quite a bit done on their budget build. For keeping with their $10,000 budget, Lashway is creating one beast of a fourth-gen Camaro. We can’t wait to see more updates on the project in the near future and see this beast unleashed on the drag strip when it’s complete.
