Livernois Motorsports First to Run 9’s in a Camaro ZL1!

It’s official! Livernois Motorsports is the very first company to land a single digit ET in a new Camaro ZL1. Just a few short days ago we brought you the story about how Livernois was tossing their hat in the ring of the ZL1 Wars, and had begun testing on their own stock ZL1. Now we are happy to report that the very same stock white ZL1 that Livernois started working with only 2 weeks ago is now the very first ZL1 to ever run a 9-second quarter mile.

Of course, the Livernois ZL1 is heavily modified and is pushing 707 horsepower and 680 pound feet of torque to the rear wheels thanks to the following combo of components:

  • Livernois Motorsports In-House CNC LSA Cylinder Heads
  • Livernois Motorsports Stage 2C High Lift Camshaft
  • Livernois Motorsports LSA Head Studs (Available soon)
  • Livernois Motorsports Exclusive Heat Exchanger (Available soon)
  • Livernois Motorsports Solid Supercharger Coupler
  • Livernois Motorsports Supercharger Pulley
  • Livernois Motorsports Exclusive Steel Idler Relocation Bracket w/ Metco Pulleys (Available soon)
  • Livernois Motorsports Spec’d Injectors
  • Livernois Motorsports Dual Fuel Pump Upgrade
  • Precision Industries Converter Built to Livernois Specs
  • Metco Oversize Crank Pulley Ring
  • Innovators West Oversize Balancer
  • Rotofab/Livernois Cold Air Intake (Available soon)
  • Stainless Works Longtube Headers & Connection Pipe
  • Hardened Pushrods
  • NGK TR6 Spark Plugs
  • 160 Degree T-Stat
  • GM 90mm Throttle Body
  • Bogart 17” Wheels w/ Slicks & Skinnies
  • Livernois Motorsports Dyno Tune

No doubt about it, that’s an extensive and impressive list of modifications, but there are a few impressive facts that come from what all Livernois didn’t change. The car is still its full-weight mammoth-self, weighing in at 4,295 pounds with the driver. Amazingly, the car also ran sub-10’s with a 100% stock suspension!

As for the story of the 9-second pass, who better to tell the tale than the man who was behind the wheel; Livernois’ own Rick LeBlanc:

The first pass off the trailer today, the car went 10.14 at 138 MPH. Many of my launches were from just above idle and it was like a bracket car with several 10.0X-10.1X passes at 138-141 MPH.

Our tuner Dan Millen was at the track with me all day logging each pass and getting more and more aggressive after each pass, so I’m sure the power was quite a bit higher than what we saw on the dyno. Dan got pretty aggressive with the tune, and on the last pass he told me to leave as hard as I could off the converter. We made up our mind that no matter what we were going 9’s on this pass!

I did the burnout, staged, then got focused. I didn’t worry about my reaction time (it was horrible as you can see) and I put it on the converter until it felt like it was going to roll forward, and then let it rip. I knew at the end of the track it was a good pass when I saw 145 mph on the heads up display. We finally did it, running a 9.87 at 142 MPH!

I wouldn’t hesitate to daily drive the ZL1 with these mods, minus the slicks of course. I do plan to head back to Milan on the stock wheels and Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials to see what it will run on 20’s.”

We would like to thank GM for building an awesome car, Rodger’s Chevrolet, Milan Dragway for the great track, Innovators West, Metco, Mickey Thompson Tires, Precision Industries, Rotofab, Stainless Works, and all the technicians at Livernois Motorsports!

The gloves are off in the battle for ZL1 supremacy, and we can’t wait to see who will fire the next shot. But for now its congrats to the team at Livernois on having the fastest ZL1 around!
