General Motors (GM) is currently at Germany’s famous Nürburgring racetrack with a fleet of C8 Corvettes. Among the Corvettes are two prototypes that appear to be the long-rumored Zora hybrid supercar.

While the test cars sport misleading ZR1 and Z06 badges, some important details reveal their true identity, signaling that GM may be preparing to challenge for a new production car lap record.

The uncamouflaged prototypes, one yellow, and one purple, were spotted with enlarged front air intakes and other aerodynamic elements that match what is expected for the top-tier Zora model.

The biggest giveaway, however, is a yellow warning sticker on the rear window of each car, which is required at the track to indicate the presence of a hybrid-electric system.

Further observation of the purple prototype revealed a complex cooling setup in the front fascia with two radiators, one likely for the internal combustion engine and another for the hybrid components.

The powertrain for the Corvette Zora is expected to be a combination of the most powerful C8 components.

It will likely pair the 1,064-horsepower twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 LT7 engine from the new ZR1 with the 160-horsepower electric motor from the E-Ray.

This setup would create an all-wheel-drive machine with over 1,200 horsepower, making the Zora not only the most powerful production Corvette in history but also one of the most powerful street-legal cars in the world.

The timing of this testing session is important. General Motors (GM) has a three-week window at the Nürburgring, which suggests a serious effort at performance benchmarking.

This follows Ford’s recent announcement that its 2025 Mustang GTD became the fastest American production car to lap the circuit. Now, it appears GM is preparing to answer that claim.
