When you think of cars that epitomize “drag-strip-dominance”, it’s a near certainty that the Mazda Miata isn’t one of cars that instantly comes to mind. These little cars may be plenty capable on the road course or autocross in spite of their wimpy four cylinder powerplants, but they just don’t have the guts to cut it in the world of straight-line performance. That is, until now.
This video we found on YouTube features one pissed-off little red Miata that will challenge every misconception you might have about these tiny cars, thanks to a mean rake courtesy of some fat Mickey Thompsons, and an LS1 rumble bellowing under the hood. We don’t get any details on the cars drivetrain combo, but what we do know is that it sounds pretty healthy, and can send this adult-sized go-cart to some very respectable ET’s.
After heating up the M/T’s, the little red roadster lines up against one of its import brethren, a Mitsubishi Evo, for some heads-up runs. When the light hits green, this far-from-stock Miata takes off like a scalded dog, and cranks out a blistering 10.84 at 125.5 miles an hour. Also keep an eye on the Evo, which almost looses it a few times trying to get to finish line. Check out the video here.
