RDP Motorsport of Perry, Ohio dyno tuned our featured Fifth Gen a few weeks ago on their state of the art, Dyno Dynamic chassis dyno. From what RDP’s Steve Leerentveld and Scott Flickinger tell us, RDP Motorsport was able to achieve 502.2bhp at 6,300rpm. It’s an impressive performance from a Camaro that uses a supercharged L99 that is otherwise stock and very much pump gas friendly.
The method behind the candy orange Camaro’s madness is its 8psi, intercooled W175-AX unit from Whipple. A 2.9l supercharger, the Whipple blower fits perfectly on and is finely tuned for the late SS’ stock drivetrain. As indicated before, this is a late model that makes just over 502 proven ponies using no more than bolt on accessories.
And as seems to be increasingly the case, RDP’s late Camaro is a street fighter that’s driveable, as RDP’s Leerentveld and Flickinger indicate that the car is still an automatic.
According to Steve Leerentveld, the Whipple blown Fifth Gen even maintains its factory headers, while the pony’s aggressive exhaust note is supplied via RDP’S own custom made, 3-inch dual exhaust.
Leerentveld also tells us that the motor can be tuned to run on 91 or 93 octane, making the blown L99 a versatile setup.
In the case of RDP’s street worthy Camaro, the car was raised to be a fire breather without the flames. With RDP’s fine tuning experience, a street machine like our featured Camaro can be tuned as far as the imagination can be stretched.
