Seldom in the automotive press do you ever get to hear about what happens to former feature cars that a magazine previously ran a story on. Some pop up here and there at car shows or on random enthusiast websites, while others disappear into the pages of history, leaving the readers wondering what ever happened to that sexy hot rod they fell in love with oh so long ago.
Well not that far back in history, two months to be exact, we featured Tony Husted’s ’08 Pontiac G8 GT turned Holden Commodore SSV. To say that Tony’s car is one of a kind would be an understatement, as his “Commodore” produces a not-too-shabby 584hp to the rear tires.
This fortified brute force comes courtesy of not an artificially enhanced 6-liter, but a reworked naturally aspirated 427-stroker LS3. Sporting all of the best hardware he could get his hands on, Tony took the “no expense spared” approach to building this monster and it shows. It is hands down, the most impressive G8 we have ever seen.
Well Tony contacted us last night to tell us his pride and joy is currently up for grabs via eBay. The auction listing shows plenty of great pictures and goes into quite a bit of detail to help Husted unload the Pontiac to make way for a possible new toy. He admits that the Buy It Now price of $37,500 is actually quite a deal –especially since he has over $80k wrapped up in the project itself.
What’s Tony looking to replace this with? He wants to keep things on the low, but he admits that it starts with a “C” and ends with a “V.” However, he has no problem hanging onto the G8 since it ultimately didn’t sell in the auction with the reserve price unmet, considering it’s the car that granted him national exposure, after all.
