2002 was a sad year for F-body enthusiasts, as GM pulled the plug on the Chevy Camaro and Pontiac Firebird/Trans Am after 35 years of continuous production. It was a real shock too, as F-body fans thought their pony car had stood up to Ford’s Mustang rather well. Without knowing if GM would ever make another Firebird or Camaro, car collectors scooped up as many fully-loaded vehicles as they could, and many of them never saw much, if any, road time.

Even so, some of those cars will be more highly valued than others. Take this 2002 Pontiac Trans Am SLP Firehawk, a car that despite being a decade old has just 119 miles on the odometer. Today’s eBay Find of the Day has a $37,500 “buy it now” price tag, which seems crazy-high, until you start to understand just what this car is.

For one, a fully-loaded Trans Am like the one you see here could easily retail for over $32,000 from the dealership lot, and that’s before SLP started tinkering with it. To change a Trans Am into a Firehawk required plenty of engine and body modifications totalling another $12,000. That means investment-wise, the seller of this Trans Am probably stands to lose quite a bit of money.

You also have to realize the relative rarity of these cars. Even a well-used 2002 Trans Am can still bring upwards of $15,000, and this car has every Pontiac and SLP option. This is a collector’s dream car, through and through, and while the high price may scare off some people, remember – there is no more Pontiac. There will never again be a Trans Am. This is the last of the breed, as well as the top dog. Does the asking pricing still seem too high?
