It’s another day at the Power Automedia offices, and as usual, we went looking for that unique snowflake on random internet sites to share with our readers. In a case of rare, WTF’s seen on eBay, we stumbled upon this ’74 Pontiac Grand Am. A fairly rare car in itself these days, sure, but to find one with four doors, a 400ci ‘plant backed by a 4-speed, and rocking dual exhaust -all from the factory? Good luck finding another just like it.

According to the seller (and somehow we believe him), the Grand Am is an unmodified example with all of the original paperwork including the window sticker to document its authenticity. Despite its 100,000 miles, which is actually low for the car’s age, the seller claims it runs like a top and has very little rust. We hope so, considering it’s far from in perfect condition and he wants $5,000 -as per his reserve price on the auction site.

On the face of things the price might be a little steep for some, however, you have to wonder what the intentions were for this car from the beginning. Looking over the paperwork, and it becomes quite clear that it was ordered strictly with performance in mind. All of the high performance options were checked; the aforementioned WT-code 400 and 4-speed, along with a HD radiator, HD air cleaner, full gauge package, and aluminum Honeycomb wheels.

We might have missed one or two, since some of the writing was hard to make out in the pictures. The only creature comforts are an AM radio and the interior lighting package. So was this car ordered by a reformed street racer turned family man? Was this a former moonshiner’s car? Or did the “Little Old Lady From Pasadena” trade in her Super Stock Dodge for something a little more practical? Who knows?

Either way, this Pontiac deserves a new lease on life, and we think it would be cool if someone restored the old girl.
