Team Cadillac Dominates The 2012 World Challenge Series

Since the release of  the original CTS-V back in 2004, Team Cadillac has been impressing fans and and giving it’s European competition a case of the worries. It’s competitiveness has surprised everyone, and with GM campaigning the CTS-V coupe for 2012, things have been even more difficult for the competition.

The thought of a Cadillac putting it to the competition from overseas can make any American proud.

On August 5th the tradition continued as Johnny O’Connell drove the Cadillac to victory during the World Challenge event at Mid-Ohio, securing Cadillac the Manufacturer’s Championship for 2012. Not only did they win the award for the Manufacturer’s Championship, but they also earned a pass into the Driver’s Championship.

Cadillac’s visit to the Buckeye State was rewarded with a 10-point lead over Porsche, and three days later, O’Connell’s teammate Andy Pilgrim would go on to earn the second place finish at Sonoma Raceway solidifying Team Cadillac’s position in the series. Cadillac lead the field in points with a final score of 89, while Volvo collected 69, and Stuttgart’s Porsche trailing with just 68.

O’Connell finished fifth in that race, earning a total of 176 points over his teammate Pilgrim in the Manufacturer’s Championship in Mid-Ohio, and a 149-point lead in the Driver’s Championship. The pair of CTS-V’s would end up at the top two pole positions as a result.

Cadillac Vice President Don Butler was very pleased saying, “Wrapping up the manufacturer’s title is pretty fulfilling, considering that it’s our second year in. We have a great team, and working together with Pratt & Miller, Steve Cole and the guys, Johnny, Andy and Jordan Taylor, who ran our third car at Mid-Ohio, they delivered when it counted.”

Butler went on to say that the racing program is part and parcel of the V-Series program, and that winning on the track is very important to the brand. You can read more about the victory and Butler’s impressions over at the Cadillac website here.
