The return of the vaunted Chevrolet Camaro in 2010 has been met with a huge level of interest from the automotive enthusiast community and the performance aftermarket, as diehard bowtie fanatics and performance shops are continually pressing on and pushing the envelope to see just what the 6.2-liter LS3 and L99 engine combinations are truly capable of. We’ve already seen these Fifth Gen’s push into the 9-second range with boosted combinations, which is quite the feat considering the overall size and weight of the car.
Josh Ledford, Steven Fereday, and the rest of the crew at Late Model Racecraft in Houston, Texas are no stranger to finding ways to make an LS-powered ride quick and fast. They are noted as one of the top LS performance shops in the the country with some truly wicked, incredible rides rolling out their back door.
This spring, LMR got their hands dirty under the hood of a new SS Camaro, transplanting a 427-inch LSX motor sporting an F1R Procharger that provides an ample amount of boost to lay down some stout numbers. Backed by a factory 6L80E automatic transmission and still rocking the full interior, air conditioning, and the whole nine from the showroom floor, their Camaro has laid down a best of 9.51 at 148 miles per hour at a hefty 4.320 pounds, including the driver. The car, owned by David Brooks, has run a string of 9.50 elapsed times, proving that none of them are a fluke and the car is consistently able to get ahold of the starting line. Check out some video footage of the LMR-prepared Camaro, running a 9.58 at 142 miles per hour after losing the supercharger belt at the 1000-foot marker.
