The 2013 racing season is fast approaching, and many racers are finishing their builds and off season upgrades. Veteran nitrous racer Mike Meeks is one of the many out there putting the finishing touches on his racing machine, and this isn’t Mike’s first rodeo when it comes to knocking out a build.
His current fifth generation Camaro came about after an epic thrash to take it from body-in-yellow to a full-blown race car almost as quick as his passes down the track.
Before Mike was campaigning the “lowmaro” in the LSX portion of the NMCA he had a fourth generation F-body that won him a championship. For 2012 Mike brought out his newest car and was was runner up to Brian Black in the “Shut Your Face” class, and scored a runner up in Drag Radial at the Holley LS Fest. Mike may not have won the LSX Drag Radial crown in 2012, but that doesn’t mean he’s taking it easy for 2013.
Mike has been working with Patrick James at Pro Systems to get his car ready for X275 and LSX Drag Radial racing this year, while Joey Martin Race Cars has been doing some updates to get the car ready to go. Big Mac racing engines has worked over the 440-inch LSX that is topped off with ET LS7 heads and a Beck intake. A Pro Systems 1300 SV-1 helps the 440 inhale all that nitrous oxide that gets the lowmaro down the track. A Rossler Powerglide transmission handles the shifting duties with a Neal Chance titanium converter helping transfer power. Out back, a Racecraft 9-inch rear with a Strange Ultra case filled with 3.73 gears helps round out the car.
Mike eclipsed his previous best of a 4.96 with a 4.925 in his 2013 debut at last weekend’s U.S. Street Nationals in Bradenton, Fla.
