Big and fast – those two simple words are about all you need to describe the new Vauxhall VXR8 Tourer. That’s because it will be the largest “Estate Car” (fancy British word for wagon) currently offered in the UK in terms of cargo space, and the 426 horsepower LS3 will give it claim to the title of the most powerful wagon in Vauxhall‘s history.
The VXR8 is yet another international version of the new Holden Commodore well all know and love, and will just get a few superficial changes to make it unique for GM’s Vauxhall VXR performance brand for the UK. Vauxhall reports that the big VXR8 is capable of going 0-60 in just 4.9 seconds, and is available with either a 6-speed manual with an LS7 clutch or with a 6-speed automatic.
Performance goodies include a ZL1-like Bi-Modal exhaust system, launch control, and Vauxhall’s signature Pentagon alloy wheels covering big Brembo brakes. The VXR8 Tourer will also have Vauxhall’s Enhanced Driver Interface (EDI) that can give the driver real-time info on everything from lap-times to G-forces all via the 5-inch touch screen in the dash. It can even tell you the Tourer’s angle during a tail-out drift session and how much horsepower and torque the engine is making. All the info logged from the EDI system can be downloaded and analyzed using the MOTEC i2 software that Vauxhall includes with the purchase of the car.
The VXR8 will reportedly cost 49,500 Pounds, which converts to just over $75,700 US Dollars. Not exactly cheap, but get this – it has a “lifetime warranty” that covers the car up to 100,000 miles. Sweet wag…I mean Estate Car, eh?
