Is there truly anything a gearhead loves more than a big, smoky burnout? Not a chance, we say. The burnout is a time-honored tradition that stretches back to the day when some guy, somewhere, realized that his buggy had more power than it did traction, and ever since, gearheads the world over have reveled in this time-honored tradition. The gang over at 1320Video have a longstanding tradition of holding a Spring burnout contest, and the owner of this insane turbocharged Trans Am was more than happy to oblige.
Of course, no real burnout contest would be complete without a participant installing a set of donated tires on the car and trying to set them ablaze, or even pop them, to the delight of crazed onlookers. You just know this one’s gonna get nuts when the intercooler gets a good spray of nice cold water before the owner even lights the tires up. With ten pounds of boost the owner claims somewhere around 650 horsepower from the LSX powerplant, with 1100 horses on 22 pounds of the turbocharged good stuff.
It takes almost two minutes, but eventually he shreds through a tire and ends up sitting on the rim, but not before the entire area is literally covered in a cloud of smoke – you can’t see most of the crowd for a couple of minutes after the tire goes boom. With a license plate that reads FR8TRN…we can only imagine how insane this thing is on the street, and even more so on the track. The owner (and his buddy) do a bit of boasting about a street-bike kill from the day prior – and from the sounds of it, we wouldn’t have wanted to be that bike owner when this thing went flying by.
