The other day, somebody captured some footage over at Car Buzz of a GTM’s cruising around town. A lot of gearheads might be wondering what a “GTM” is? A lot of you are probably more familiar with the guys over at Factory 5. Yup, they are the guys that started a business building AC Cobra replicas, which are seen all around the place nowadays.

Then there is their insane, little Project 818. They call this the first “World Car.” It features a mid engine Subaru Boxer engine architecture all wrapped up in a petite 1800 lb. chassis with composite panels. This is a competition designed car that you can build for no more than $15K.

However, Project 818 – and the Cobra – were not bad ass enough for them, so they went and designed their own American-made Supercar – the GTM. This was done at no small risk on their part.

This is meant to be an affordable competition car

They started off with 6061-T6 aluminum, and designed a space frame surrounded by a matrix of aluminum sub panels. Through a combination of a Porsche transaxle and suspension related Corvette parts and pieces, they ended up with a Chevy LS engine mounted behind the driver. Does 60% rear weight mean much to ya’ll? And let us not forget what kind of dyno numbers the LS brings to the table. The sky is the limit – it’s up to you.

These cars are already tearing up the racetracks all around this country. And no doubt the streets will continue to feel the heat as well. However, the coolest thing of all is that you and your buddies can build a monster like this in your garage. Starting price is $25,000. Any takers?
