Detroit can only keep so many secrets, and GM hasn’t exactly hidden its intentions of making Cadillac into an American BMW. The groundwork has already been laid with the Cadillac CTS-V, but the General’s luxury brand still lacks a real small-car contender. That will all change with the eventual introduction of the Cadillac ATS, a car that could share platforms with a future Camaro.
And as luck would have it, the 2014 ATS and ATS-V spec sheets seem to have leaked online via CarScoop. So is this just hopeful thinking, or is this spec sheet for real?
Let’s get to the goodies; according to this spec sheet, the base Cadillac ATS will come with a 2.0 liter turbocharged engine, making an impressive 270 horsepower and 250 ft-lbs of torque while returning up to 32 mpg on the highway. An available 330 horsepower/280 ft-lb torque 3.6 liter V6 will return up to 30 mpg when hooked to an eight-speed automatic that it will share with the 2.0 liter turbo. All well and good, but what about the ATS-V?
Cadillac’s M3 fighter will come with a 470 horsepower and 438 ft-lb torque 6.2 liter V8, probably a next-generation LS-engine. Coupled with direct injection, this motor will supposedly have a 12:1 compression ratio but still deliver up to 25 mpg through a six-speed automatic. And when we think back to the rumors that the ATS will be sharing a platform with the future Camaro, we can’t help but drool.
It all adds up in our heads. GM is making a concentrated effort in the small car market, and that is reflected in the lineup. GM introduced both the new not-Aveo, the Sonic, and a Chevrolet Cruze-based Buick. But it still needs a “baby” CTS for its luxury arm, and we’ve already seen pictures of a presumed production mule of the ATS driving around the track. If this spec sheet is for real, Caddy and Camaro owners have a lot to look forward to.
