Feast your eyes on one of the most badass Volkswagens on the interwebs. Built by Psycho Tuning out of Norway, this 2002 Passat wagon is packing an LS1 engine with a Magnuson MP112 supercharger sitting nice and snug in place of the factory intake manifold.
This Passat wagon started its life as a 1.9L TDI, but was torn down and gutted for the sole purpose of killing tires. Psycho Tuning built this rad Passat wagon with drift and drag in mind, but couldn’t accomplish that with front-wheel-drive and an economical 4-cylinder diesel, so they figured a nice, American V8 would be the perfect candidate for their tire slayer.
Bolted to the LS1 power plant is a Tremec TKO 600 transmission, which is for a Ford engine, but was adapted via bellhousing to aid in the rubber destruction in this GM-powered German wagon. In the process of the build, front and rear subframes from an E39 BMW 5-Series were welded in place as well as full driveline components from a BMW 5-Series to make rear-wheel-drive a reality. The front and rear subframes are aluminum as well, which helped them save quite a bit of weight with the conversion.
After everything was in place, a roll-cage was fabricated for safety and chassis rigidity. A Magnuson supercharger was also added to the equation, because every V8 loves a nice serving of fine whine.
Even though this awesome Passat was built in 2011, we still like to show it love like it was built yesterday, because work like this shouldn’t go unseen. We love this build and wish there was more of it to look at. Maybe someone in SoCal should put their purse down and build one for us to admire in person! Props to the crew over at Psycho Tuning for building an awesome, tire-slaying machine!
