Mojave Mile: Race to 200mph from Jeffrey Hart on Vimeo.
In February 2011, we caught up with Joel Feingold to do a feature on his truly unique 1998 C5 ‘Vette (seen here). While many ‘Vettes are setup specifically for the drag strip, Joel also wanted to make his roadworthy for the local Los Angeles twists and turns. As the original owner, Joel wasted no time (and spared no expense) as he quickly began modding his ‘Vette to meet his needs.
Having made some additional modifications since 2011, Joel spent some time with Michelle in this video going over what is under the hood. As he explains, the C5 is now running a stroked LS3, equipped with a Paxton supercharger and using Torco race fuel to generate 762 hp and 644 lb-ft of torque at the wheels. Michelle seemed very impressed.
Featured in this video, Joel took his C5 to the Mojave Mile, which is a privately held airstrip in the Mojave Desert where the goal is to go as fast as possible in a set one mile distance. In order to comply with the Mojave Mile rules, a five point harnesses, roll cage, and a mounted fire extinguisher were added to Joel’s C5 prior to the event. After adding these much needed safety features, Joel took his ‘Vette to Ryan Cunningham at Cunningham Motorsports for a custom top speed specific tune.
All of their hard work paid off as Joel was able to successfully complete three passes, each with a top speed of over 200 mph. The three passes came back officially as 206.8 mph, 201.8 mph, and 202.5 mph! While reaching the 200 mph mark is impressive enough, what is even more impressive is that Joel actually drove the 300 mile roundtrip to and from the raceway in his 200+mph capable C5, proving not only its capabilities at the track, but also as a daily driver.
