One of the great things about being involved in the world of automobiles is that we get to see and hear about all sorts of crazy projects people plunge into. Whether it’s a ridiculous hot rod, a car-truck hybrid, or just an uber-powered muscle car, we love to see people’s creativity come out in their cars. Muscle cars are an especially awesome canvas for creativity, as there seems to be no shortage of the “cool” factor when it comes to classic American iron.
Raybestos Brakes, a major manufacturer of aftermarket fast-stop parts, is undertaking a major muscle car project that they are calling the GTO-R, and it’s unlike any GTO we’ve ever seen or heard of.
This is not just a pretty face; it is being equipped with some of the best go-fast hardware available on the market, with power coming from an LSX454 engine backed by a six-speed Tremec transmission. Behind the transmission is a Moser rear end to help put all that power down to the ground. For once though, the engine is not the star of the show. That goes to the Raybestos NASCAR brake system that will provide tremendous stopping power to reign in this angry Goat.
This is not Raybesto’s first project car, having worked with Troy Ladd of Hollywood Hot Rods before on a hot rod truck. However, this GTO-R is closer to our hearts, and with the crew of Chicagoland’s Hot Rod Chassis and Cycle shop working on it we’ll be sure to keep you up to date as progress comes forth of this awesome muscle car build, or follow along yourself at the Raybestos Garage.
