Painting a car is a tricky subject–the engine may be in peak condition, the interior kept immaculate and pristine, the tires cleaned and shined with every car wash, but it’s the paint that often makes friends or enemies of the outside world. At a far-off distance, long before anyone can recognize a make and model, the color plays a big role in attracting or repelling people, and plays a huge part in sales.

On hand to speak with us was business manager Mark Rapson, who was able to enlighten us on the Corvette and its qualities. “Ember Gold is our special tricoat color, given a flat clearcoat over the top of it to give it that flat sheen look,” he said. “We customized it up a bit by painting the A-pillars to match the body color too.”

Commenting on the trending fad of giving cars a flat finish, Rapson held the view that the Ember Gold was a great choice for the C7. “In cars like these, sharp edges tend to get enhanced with a flat clearcoat,” he explained. “We thought it would make for a really unique styling activity to do ours like this, and so far it’s done well here at the show.”
