Each Corvette has improved upon the generation that came before, and the newest lineup of Vettes is no different. Some have made bigger leaps than others, but the C7 Stingray is thought by many to be worlds apart from its predecessor, the C6 Corvette.
When transitioning to the C5 from the C4, many traditional enthusiasts had some adjusting to do when they realized the conventional transmission was now a rear-mounted transaxle. One way or another the cars continue to improve and we’re generally glad that they do. The goal for Chevrolet was to create a seventh-generation Corvette Stingray that would outperform the C6 Grand Sport, and they certainly succeeded.
As far the new Z06 was concerned, they set their sights on surpassing the previous ZR1’s performance, and again they succeeded. In fact the C7 Z06, especially when outfitted with the Z07 package, is able to outperform the previous generation’s Z06 and ZR1 in both performance and luxury creature comforts.
Many are now wondering if this is leaving the door open for the much anticipated “Zora” or any mid-engine Vette under a different name. Only time will tell, but should Chevrolet release a production car we certainly hope Corvette Online receives another invitation from Chevy to explore their newest creation. Whether the next new model to roll out of Bowling Green is of the mid-engine variety or it’s the C8, we are sure the boundaries will continue to be pushed with America’s sports car.
