Nissan’s R34 Skyline is a work of pure genius right off the assembly line. However, one individual has decided to change the game by swapping out the RB26DETT motor for a burly General Motors 5.3 liter V8 engine. Before firing up the hate mail please read through the article…there might be a legit reason for this blasphemous swap.
Posted on Engine Swap Depot, the project’s name according to Facebook is Skyline R34 V8 LHD Build Fueled By Haters NB Canada. Pulling off the V8 transplant into the Skyline won’t be an easy task as it looks to be a tight fit based off the build pictures.
Not to mention, the V8 engine will be mated with a Nissan 370Z six-speed manual transmission with the help from a custom LS1 bell housing. In addition, the dash has to be completely stripped and relocated to accommodate for left-hand drive engine layout versus the R34’s original right-hand drive.
Swapping out the Nissan-spec twin turbos, this Skyline will be pressurized with an Eaton M122 supercharger. Other engine specs include a 102 millimeter throttle body, 3.5 inch cat-back exhaust with V-bands, and custom headers.
With several components of the Skyline relocated, this swap will forever change this Japanese supercar. Although the R34 Skyline never made it to the United States, it is still highly revered for its rarity and advanced engineering.
Nissan enthusiasts may turn their head upon seeing what is being done here, but swapping the inline-six motor for a larger V8 engine will surely please tuners and possibly musclecar nuts.
This R34 Skyline may look lightly tuned on the outside, but it’s the left-hand drive configuration and V8 rumble that will change everything. Yeah, this swap hurts… on many levels.
