If we could only choose a single car to represent America to the rest of the world, it would be, hands down, the Chevrolet Corvette. Forget our obvious bias for a second and try to look at this objectively, as no other American car has the same prestige or performance as the Corvette. With over 60 years of heritage to draw from and offering the best combination of raw power and agility, the Corvette can stand toe-to-toe with sports cars from across the globe.
It shouldn’t come as any surprise then that the respected auto analysts at J.D. Power and Associates found the 2015 Corvette Stingray to be the more “satisfying” ride compared to the Porsche 911 in the Midsize Premium Sports Car segment, reports CNNMoney. The survey spoke with people who had bought new cars within the last 90 days, asking dozens of questions about their car’s features, performance, and overall quality in J.D. Power’s “APEAL” study.
Last year the Porsche 911 took this cherished spot, as it has many times before, drawing on a long and storied racing history, as well as technological advancements that keep it at the cutting edge of the sports car world. But it’s difficult to stay on top, and Porsche’s prestige apparently only goes so far.
Buyers of the new Corvette Stingray gave the sports car high marks for acceleration, audio quality, and even fuel economy. Yes, fuel economy. Because even buyers of $50,000+ sports cars can appreciate not having to stop at each and every gas station on your way to the weekly cruise night. But the surprising deciding factor here wasn’t performance or even gas mileage, but rather cargo space. “Interestingly, storage was also an advantage vs. the competition in this segment–with owners citing more trunk space,” says J.D. Power.
Who would have ever thought the Corvette would win a comparison against a Porsche 911 based on cargo space?
