On the afternoon of October 20, the Seattle Seahawks’ running back Fred Jackson, was involved in a single-car motor vehicle accident. After leaving the nearby NFL team’s training center, Jackson lost control of his C7 Z06 Corvette, and reportedly crashed through a planter box and into a stop sign. Renton Police told ESPN that “[Jackson’s car] sustained moderate front-end damage,” though he was unharmed.
Originally, TMZ reported that Jackson may have been involved in a street racing incident with one of his teammates, Marshawn Lynch. However the Renton Police Department later released a statement explaining, “There is no indication that Jackson was racing another vehicle. He remained on scene until officers could speak to him. He was polite and cooperative.”
Now we can’t imagine a Police Department would cover up a street racing incident to merely save a football player some jail time or a fine. Even if he were to be arrested, it probably wouldn’t be a career ending move… lord knows the NFL has had their share of criminals on the field.
Either way, we are glad that neither the driver nor any other motorists or pedestrians were harmed, and all should be well after a little time at the local bodyshop. Accidents do happen so we’ll give Jackson the benefit of the doubt on this one, but if there was some some street racing taking place, we hope the NFL running back learned his lesson.
