Late Model Racecraft had a successful weekend at the last Texas Mile event, setting records with both their Corvette and 1,800 horsepower Camaro. Jalopnik and High Tech Corvette reported the record setting 244 MPH pass was made by LMR’s driver, Josh Ledford. LMR’s Camaro experienced a few incidents during the event, including a high-speed drifting occurrence shown in the video that would leave most drivers needing a change of pants.
In the video three different views of the run shown giving spectators a chance to experience what zero traction at over 240 MPH looks like. During the section with the onboard camera, the driver calmly steers through the high-speed drift and gives a fist pump once the car is safely under control.
Ledford showed no fear during the drift – not a single four-letter word was uttered during the slide. However, the drift was not the only issue with LMR’s attempt to set a world record for the fastest F-Body on the planet (as far as standing mile is concerned); a fire erupted during an earlier 243 MPH run. Despite the flames the car and the crew were able to get back on track and set the record. LMR’s Camaro is powered by LS3 engine that produces over 1,800 horsepower and 1,300 ft lb of torque. LSXMAG featured a news story with video coverage on the twin-turbo LS3 Camaro on the dyno.
Congrats to LMR and Ledford – the device has not yet been invented which can accurately measure how huge yours are…
