For the last decade or so, automakers have been churning out some of the fastest, most badass factory performance cars ever produced. GM has led the pack in this regard, with cars like the Corvette ZR1 and Cadillac CTS-V. The thing is, getting a chance to use all of those 550+ horsepower isn’t something that happens on a regular basis, and certainly not on any public roads. No, you’ve got to go somewhere long, flat, and out of the way to really stretch the legs on these cars.

That’s what The Smoking Tire did, hopping in the seat of the Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon, heading to El Mirage for an attempt to go as fast as possible in the longroof luxury racer.

The CTS-V Sport Wagon is one of the latest additions to the CTS-V lineup, and also the heaviest by at least 200 pounds, tipping the scales at around 4,400 pounds. That’s one heavy hitter, and were this any other station wagon, we wouldn’t be talking about taking a trip out to El Mirage and shooting for a top speed run. But with a 556 horsepower supercharged LSA engine on tap, The Smoking Tire host Matt Farah hops behind the wheel ready to take on El Mirage, but not before calling OnStar to join him for the ride.

Yes, the host calls OnStar, right before embarking on a three-mile journey to go as fast as the Cadillac CTS-V will go. And what a sound this longroof racer makes as it screams towards 175 MPH, the top speed before Farah has to shut it down (having run out of room.) The follow up is a standing-mile shootout between the Caddy and a modded C6 Z06.

We won’t ruin the surprise by telling you who wins – It’s a great waste of time if you’ve got eight minutes and nothing to do, and from the sounds of the OnStar voice, the lady at the call center was wishing she were along for the ride. Then again, so do we.
