Something’s gotta give when a Honda Civic and a Chevy LS3 V8 meet on the road to engine swap nirvana. Either the motor is being swapped into a front-drive world or the car is being swapped into a rear drive world.
Alliance Fabrication of Haslet, Texas elected to convert its Honda to rear-wheel-drive mode and shoe-horn the 6.2-liter V8 in an engine room designed to accommodate 2 liters and half the cylinders.
This Civic is the brainchild of one Matt Hickam and the engine is from Steve Morris Engines. In fact, Matt won the engine as part of the Steve Morris Engines 2016 LS-Free Sweepstakes. We are not sure of the parameters of the giveaway, but Matt is making out big-time with this boosted small block.
Matt has owned the Civic for many years and has had LS V8 aspirations for a long time. The car was built around a mock-up motor and the sweepstakes powerplant proved to be the missing piece of the puzzle.
A six-part series of videos on the LS-Free were made so hopefuls could see exactly what they would be winning. We are including the Part 5 video where Steve runs down the FAST fuel injection tuning strategy going into the build, the Bullseye 83mm turbo, and there’s footage that shows the engine on the engine dyno and screaming to four-digit power.
Steve Morris Engines said the driving force behind the sweepstakes was inspiring customers to focus on building forced induction engines and show that the company can develop a kit that will deliver the parts they need to create an LS similar to the LS-Free.
For sure, having a Civic as the landing spot for this Chevy-based giveaway engine raised more than a few eyebrows, as this match-up seems more sacrilegious than divine to many. We can’t wait to see Matt get his Civic up and running, and laying down some super-quick quarter miles.
