Last month marks the Camaro’s third best sales volume of 2016. 6,577 Chevrolet Camaros were sold, making it the #1 vehicle in musclecar sales. The Ford Mustang followed close behind with 6,427 units sold and the Dodge Challenger with 5,698. Camaro sales rose a whopping 25%, yet Mustang sales fell 32%, giving the Camaro a turn at the top for the first time in almost two years.
Nice, Chevy! Finally! But how did you do it?…
Could this be thanks to Chevrolet’s tripled incentives, the sudden drop in Mustang sales, or a little bit of both?
While the entire musclecar market is down this year, the Camaro’s success in September is most likely thanks to the sudden drop in Mustang sales due to the massive incentives that GM is offering to move more poeple into a Camaro. September was the worst month thus far for the newest generation of Mustang since its release back in 2014. It’s been #1 for almost two years… coincidence?! I think not!
So far this year, there have been over 87,258 Mustangs and 54,535 Camaros sold– thats a whopping difference of 32,723 units. Looks like the Camaro still has no chance to be crowned the best seller this year. And if the Dodge Challenger’s popularity continues to rise, statistics show the Camaro may just end up dropping into third place–a fate perhaps worse than death.
