SEMA 2016: Finish Line Speed Shop And Covercraft Help Strike Out ALS

FinishlineSEMA2016-25

The partnership between Finish Line Speed Shop and Covercraft started long before SEMA 2016. It developed when Lyon McClenahan was building the Dream Dart last year for SEMA, a car that had been in the Connor family since it was new.

One individual, who was the inspiration for this 1975 C10 Pickup, was a guy who was well loved by the local community. His name was Mark Cain, and he was the owner of Cain Custom in Bremerton, Washington. During the build of the Dream Dart, Mark was always willing to help and to get involved in such a special project.

Sadly, Mark suffered from ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, and though he did not let it affect his willingness to help (he built the headers for the Dart) he unfortunately lost his battle to this disease.

Lyon decided it was time to create Project Give Back, purely for the Thrill of the Build, in Mark’s honor with a new project, the C10 pickup wearing custom colors and a “Strike Out ALS” ribbon.

FinishlineSEMA2016-23The truck itself is a list of who’s who of performance parts. When we first got wind of the build, we told Lyon we’re all in and that we would feature the truck here. The project got started, and then, like any SEMA project, it was still being worked on the night before it was to arrive at SEMA. What’s the saying? If a vehicle isn’t still being worked on the day it gets shown, then it’s a SEMA vehicle.

The Thrill Of The Build, Striking Out ALS

The Thrill of the Build is all about Striking out ALS, and this truck will be auctioned off in the spring of 2017, with all proceeds going to ALS. So what can the new owner expect from this beautiful truck? The list is long, for sure, but it will be a vehicle that you’ll cherish.

Sitting low isn’t a problem with the AccuAir E-level system, keeping the pressure steady with a pair of Stealth Black Viair Corp compressors. Once the air compressors kick on, you get a better view of the 22-inch Centerline smoothies wrapped with Toyo Proxes. To give the wheels a somewhat retro-look, a set of clips were acquired from Chad Terhar to mount the original C20 wheel covers.

Keeping things smoothed out on the drive is a set of QA1 adjustable shocks on the CPP drop spindles up front and the PorterBuilt Fab Level 3 drop members front and rear. And though you can’t exactly see them behind the smoothies, Master Power BrakesProDriver big brake kits help bring the truck to a stop.

Under the hood, the 5.3 liter LS and 4L65E transmission bring a bit of modern to the classic truck, that makes it a cool cruiser with some power and a bit of reliability, with a side dish of economy with that overdrive. Hedman‘s LS swap ceramic coated headers give it a bit more power, scavenging the exhaust to a pair of Black Widow Venom 250 series mufflers. MSD provides the spark with a set of coils and plugs. Keeping the headers snug to the block is a set of Stage 8 locking fasteners.

Inside the cab, the Kicker sound system keeps the ears lubed with 1,500 watts of Q-Class power, and Vintage Air keeps the cabin cool during hot summer cruises. To keep out road noise and heat, Boom Mat from DEI helps this slammed truck sound like a luxury car.

The driver is treated to an Ididit direct-fit tilt steering column, and a custom-built Pomona 3-spoke steering wheel laser engraved with the Finish Line Speed Shop logo horn button. Giving a little more ocular love is the new HDX gauges for the C10 from Dakota Digital, with full custom-color tunability and access to engine vitals at the touch of a button. Keeping the feet cozy is a set of custom-embroidered floormats and dash pad from Covercraft.

With a truck like this, nothing but the best for paint. Jeff Rider applied the Blood Orange over Red sealer finish, along with the Ice White Pearl inset, from House Of Kolor. Ron Wall, applied the fine pinstriping to the truck, and keeping all of that protected is a custom cover from Covercraft.

Lighting up the road before you will be a set of LED headlamps from United Pacific, along with various other LED lights on the truck. All the trim was stripped and repainted in satin black, supplied by Brothers Truck Parts.
