Connecticut based Callaway Cars has been taking GM performance cars and making them even better for decades, and now it’s the 5th Gen Camaro’s turn to get the Callaway treatment. Callaway currently offers two models of the new Camaro, and both of them are potent weapons for the street. The lesser model is the Callaway Camaro SC552, with the L99/automatic transmission drivetrain. With the twin-rotor TVS 2300 Supercharger and a liquid-to-air intercooler, this engine puts down a respectable 552 HP. The upper level SC572 with the LS3 and a manual transmission does slightly better, putting down, as you might guess from the name, 572 horsepower. Both of these cars can be purchased from Callaway for $18,000 on top of the Camaro SS base price, putting them right around $50,000 for a coupe.
If you can afford that price tag, and you want a little more than just gobs of power, you can also purchase the SC552 or the SC572 with a sport tuned suspension, 6-pison front and 4-piston rear upgraded brakes, and the flashy “Power Window” hood, featuring a ZR1-like cutout lined with carbon fiber accents to show off that awesome TVS 2300.
In Motorweek’s “First Impression Test” of both the SC552 and the SC572 they were impressed with the car’s overall refinement and performance. The auto-trans SC552 came in just over 4 seconds in zero to sixty, and the manual SC572 came in at just under the 4 second mark. Motorweek tells us, “What sets Callaway apart from other specialty manufacturers is how well all the aspects of their designs gel. Smooth and powerful cars will win races, and win fans for Callaway Cars.”
