At every stage of development we wanted things that improved performance and looked the part.
Tony Roma, the ZL1 Program Engineering Manager is quoted on the new website as saying, “At every stage of development we wanted things that improved performance and looked the part. This car brings the latest and greatest of everything, all proven on the most demanding tracks around the world.” Just a few of those performance enhancements include a dual mode exhaust which GM says provides a sound as good as an aftermarket system, added fuel pickups to the gas tank to prevent fuel starvation during hard cornering, 6-piston Brembo front brakes (standard SS 4-piston Brembos in the rear though…), and the advanced Magnetic Ride technology suspension.
That’s not to even mention the 580 horsepower supercharged LSA that brings the whole package to life. GM also takes the opportunity to brag about the ZL1’s impressive weight balance – 52% front and 48% rear.
