PRI 2011: More on the COPO Camaro from GM Performance Parts

You loved it when GM Performance Parts rolled it out of the crate at SEMA, and here at PRI, Chevy continues to mercilessly tease us with yet another possible COPO Camaro variation. Previously announced were the AA Stock Eliminator version, powered by a 327 CI LS topped by a 2.9l Whipple supercharger, and the A Stock configuration, with a naturally aspirated 427.

Now, they’ve spec’ed out an A Super Stock powertrain, featuring a 327 blown by a monster 4-liter twin screw supercharger. It’s enough to make any drag racer drool, but they’re still just speculation at this point, with no commitment for actual production.

Additional content includes:

  • High-rise cowl-induction hood
  • Custom Aeromotive fuel system, with a fuel cell and integral high-pressure fuel pump
  • Full, chrome moly roll cage
  • Coil-over front suspension with Strange Engineering adjustable struts
  • Custom rear suspension, based on NHRA requirements, with Strange Engineering shocks, Panhard bar and stabilizer bar
  • Strange Engineering S-9 solid rear axle with aluminum third member, 35-spline spool, 35-spline axles and 4.10 gear set
  • Lightweight, COPO-specific racing wheels
  • 29×9-inch rear radial racing slicks and 4.5x28x15-inch front tires
  • Manual steering system
  • Strange Engineering lightweight racing brakes system with standard line lock.

One additional bit of intel – While we were hanging out in the GMPP booth, we heard that they’re going testing at the dragstrip next week, and if all goes well, we should have video from the track to show you soon. Fingers crossed – anyone who’s built a racecar knows that the devil is in the details, but we may just get a little look at what the COPO Camaro can do before too long…
