We were recently mulling around the interwebs and found this high-winding 1990 LT5 engine and transmission for sale on Craigslist. The ad states that the engine, transmission, exhaust (including cats), complete wiring harness, and all the accessories that hang on the front of the engine come with the sale.
There are specific reasons why someone might not choose to use an LT5 in their engine swap, but there are SO many more reasons why we would want one. Sure, we don’t have a ZR-1 to plop the engine into, or for a reason to have spares lying around, but just think of the possibilities! Imagine putting one of these babies into an early C4, perhaps even leaving the “Cross-Fire” badging on the sides. How much fun would it be trolling the stoplights and show fields, watching jaws drop when you revealed your secret weapon?

The entire drvetrain is included, right down to the driveshaft and cats/manifolds. There’s even an A/C compressor tucked down inside the storage container.
Back to reality. The seller listed this powertrain package on Craigslist in the Oakland, California area. He states that the assembly was removed from a 1990 ZR-1 Corvette, but doesn’t state how many miles or overall condition, simply that the engine, transmission and wiring harness/ECU are “complete”. The seller even states that the aluminum driveshaft is included.

The engine is in one shipping crate and the other items are in their own, separate shipping container. Not sure what the cost might be to ship this gem, but for those willing to shell out the dough for the purchase price, that’s likely not a major concern.
He does ask that anyone interested should contact him for further information. We’d love to be able to stuff these goodies into a project, just to be able to hear those DOHCs belt out their high-pitched song. Being a ’90 model means this offering was rated at “only” 385 horsepower, but we know there’s a lot more to be had for those who are willing to take the plunge. We’d love to know where this engine eventually winds up, and what it winds up doing. Who knows, the options could range from spares for another ZR-1 to a highly-polished show piece in about any imaginable body style. Either way, this engine oozes of coolness and we’d be proud to have it in our stable.
