The C4 Corvette, produced from 1984 through 1996, is like the Rodney Dangerfield of sports cars. Despite being a capable performance machine, the C4 Corvette gets no respect. So even though it featured, for the time, cutting-edge fuel injection technology and a digital dashboard, today these ‘Vettes are treated as disposable and unimpressive by most people.

We don’t know why the arsonist targeted Robert Thrift’s white C4 Corvette , but by the time Thrift got outside with a fire extinguisher, his car was already too far gone. News4Jax.com reports that his Corvette is just the latest in a string of unexplained car fires that have police blaming a serial arsonist.

One would think that their car is safe sitting in their driveway, but Thrift awoke to his car alarm blaring and fire blazing on the hood of his white C4. Body panels melted and the interior caught on fire, and the classic Corvette is without a doubt a total loss. Two nights earlier, another Hillard area resident (around the Jacksonville, Florida area) awoke to a knock on their door and their car on fire.

Police have blamed a serial arsonist who is getting increasingly bold, and is blamed for 11 separate fires since February. This has the local sheriff’s office offering a $5,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the guilty party, but so far the police have few promising leads.
