Photo And Video Highlights From The 7th World Fuel Altered Nationals

The Eddyville Raceway Park Eddyville, Ia. played host to the 7th annual World Fuel Altered Nationals last weekend, which brought together the strongest contingent of modern Fuel Altereds in its history with some 20 short wheelbase, nitro-burning altereds on the property.

Terry Brian paced the field after the two scheduled qualifying sessions with a stout 3.941 at 182.70 mph, followed closely by Howard Farris and John Broussard at 3.975 and 3.996, respectively. John Dunn anchored the 16-car field with his off-pace 7.91 best.

The 16 cars were broken into a pair of 8-car fields for eliminations, with the eight quickest cars comprising the headliner A-field. Farris laid down the quickest elapsed time of the event with a 3.90 in an opening round defeat of Aaron Leyda, as Broussard, Brian, and Belt all advanced to the semifinals. There, Broussard and Brian ran nearly identical 3.96’s to punch their ticket to the final. The epic final that could’ve been however, was not, as Broussard broke an A-arm while staging, allowing Brian to cruise to the 4.00-second victory.

Over on the B-field side, Alan Middendorf came alive after struggling during qualifying as he reeled off a 3.955 — the second quickest run of the opening round in either field — to send Dunn packing. Middendorf maintained that pace in the semifinals with a 3.96, but in the final, it was an all-out war as he and Steve Elliot battled to the stripe after nearly identical reaction times. Middendorf was out of the throttle early — evidenced by his 136 mph speed — but Elliot simply could not run him down.

Our pals Eric and Shane over at 1800 Entertainment were at Eddyville all weekend long doing what they do best – capturing the sights and sounds of the quickest Fuel Altereds in the world on video and in stills, and were kind enough to share their take with us.
