When Chevrolet decided to replace its historic small-block engine platform, it was only a matter of time before the new engine found its way to the dirt ovals. The LS engine first appeared in the 1997 Corvette to great accolades.

According to Canton Racing Product’s Mike Zeranski, “The Chevy LS features several upgrades over the original small-block Chevy engine platform, from upgraded cylinder heads, fuel injection, coil-pack ignition, and new firing order.”

Zeranski was also quick to point out the LS engine also featured a skirted block. This change marked a departure from the traditional rounded-seal-style oil pan to a flat-rail oil pan seal.

Canton Racing’s LS circle track oil pans differentiate themselves with the pan’s baffling. “Our baffling systems are a result of extensive testing on all types of tracks and engine configurations,” said Zeranski.
