Last year, the team at TBM Brakes revealed the company’s new sister brand, RIFE Sensors, offering a complete array of high-end vehicle sensors — the product of years of engineering and development. RIFE’s mission was and is to produce the fastest, longest-lasting, most durable, and accurate sensors on the market, with no compromises. RIFE has not, since that time, rested on its initial product offering, but has continued to aggressively develop new products and add to the lineup to provide total vehicle solutions for racers and high-high-performance enthusiasts.
Among RIFE’s earliest products was a fast-response IAT (intake air temperature) sensor, which it says is 70-percent faster than even the best-performing of OEM GM sensors. But according to RIFE’s Randy Cotteleer, customers longed for a “plug and play” solution, and so RIFE delivered.
RIFE’s Lo-At (up to 335-degrees Fahrenheit) and Hi-AT (up to 485-degrees Fahrenheit) sensors are now available with the correct GM-style connector. These sensors feature ultra-low mass thermistors for quicker response, extended length to move the sensing element out further into the airstream (which is also critical for faster readings) and come with 3/8 NPT threads to match the factory GM sensor. The sensing element used in the RIFE Sensor is not only faster, but also more 50-percent more accurate.
“The issue with the GM style air temperature sensors is two-fold: one, they have a limited temperature range, especially when used in boosted applications; and second, even the “fast-response” GM-style sensors are significantly slower than they could be,” Cotteleer. “The upside to these new sensors is that virtually every aftermarket EFI harness comes with the GM connector wired in, ready to go.”
RIFE notes that these RIFE sensors require a special calibration and are only appropriate for use with an aftermarket ECU. Instruction and calibration data are available on its website, rifesensors.com.
