In case you haven’t noticed, the pro-touring movement is alive and well. These unique builds flood our social media feed daily as vintage cars show up with modern powerplants and drivetrains. Some of the more popular vehicles for a pro-touring build are the first- and second-generation Camaros. The F-body is known for its performance over the years, and the performance aftermarket had been manufacturing parts for these vehicles for more than 50 years. Even now, in 2021, while cruising the aisle at PRI, we are still finding new pieces that fit these iconic sports cars.
While at PRI, we ran across the Speedway Motors booth, which included a new rear suspension setup on display. The Speedway G-Comp rear suspension system combines modern handling with your old-school muscle car, giving you, in our opinion, the best of both worlds.
The Speedway G-Comp rear suspension for the first- and second-gen Camaros is a 100-percent bolt-in design that doesn’t require any cutting or fabrication. A custom torque arm and trailing arms modeled after the rear suspension under a fourth-gen F-body locate a 9-inch Grand National style rear axle while aftermarket coilovers replace the leaf springs on the rear. This package also includes subframe connectors, a 7/8-inch x 26-inch solid torsion bar style sway bar, mounts, and hardware.
- 100-percent bolt-in- design
- Replaces factory leaf springs with coilover shocks within a compact design
- Designed ride height is 2-inches lower than stock and is easily adjustable with coilovers
- The lower shock mount has two positions to accommodate multiple length shocks
- Adjustable Panhard bar to control lateral movement and roll center height
