SEMA 2019: B Is For Build’s LS-Swapped Lamborghini Huracan

Chris Steinbacher from B Is For Build set out on an epic journey to create one of the most unique LS-swaps that we have ever seen. This is not your average swap that can be executed over the course of a weekend. The car chosen for this journey was a Lamborghini Huracan, and it has turned into a showstopper.

Just a few months ago, we showcased a video that showed the car going together with the unveiling scheduled to occur at SEMA. The guys were busting their tails and were determined to get the Lambo to Sin City. We are happy to say they succeeded.

When we arrived at SEMA, the Huracan was parked at the Garrett Turbo booth with a cover on it. During the first day of the show, hundreds of people crowded around to see the unveiling of this monster build. With the car cover off, the Texas Speed & Performance engine looks right at home nestled between the rear fenders of the Huracan. A set of Garrett mirror-image twin-turbos poke ever so slightly out, giving the car a very sinister look. Everything about the Huracan looks like an Italian supercar except the engine. We even heard one lady stop in the aisle and told her friend, “It’s just another Lamborghini.” This statement couldn’t be farther from the truth, and most people at the show know that.

We were able to talk to Chris about the car after the crowd finally cleared at the end of day two. He told us surprisingly that everyone loved the build, and he had not received any negative feedback on the car.

When asked about some of the challenges with the build, Chris said, “I didn’t have a Lamborghini to measure, so I had a $100,000 in the project before we could even tell if the engine would fit.” The build did have some other challenges too. Chris explains, “The problems started with the Graziano transaxle being longer than the factory Huracan unit. We could have cut the firewall, but fortunately, we didn’t need to.”

Renegade Hybrids came to the rescue with an accessory drive that measures a compact 1-1/2-inches wide, allowing the Texas Speed LS to fit ever so snugly in the engine compartment. This drive was designed for LS swaps in Porches due to the lack of room and worked out perfectly in the Lambo. Other than fitment issues, the only other obstacle, according to Chris, was the wiring. He explains, “What’s left of the Lambrogini brain is fighting us on every single avenue, and that’s our last hurdle.”

The Lambo tips the scales at only 2,700-pounds and is expected to make 1,500 horsepower, which will require larger turbos. Chris says the car is built for drag racing, and we can’t wait to see it make a pass.

If you’re not up to speed on this project, you can watch the LS Huracan episodes at B Is For Build on YouTube. Chris also wanted to thank his sponsors, especially Texas Speed, for the engine, and Garrett turbos for the product and booth space at SEMA.
