SEMA 2019: Harbor Freight Is Playing for the Gold

Usually, at trade shows, we focus on companies that bring you the latest in go-fast parts and news. While that isn’t any different here, we decided to swing into Harbor Freight and see what was new from the tools and storage perspective. After all, we all do use tools on our diesel-, alcohol-, and gas-powered machines, right? Well, good news. Harbor Freight‘s latest brand, ICON, is a serious contender against several big names without the big name price.

Before we dug into what was on display, we met up with Mr. Will Sharp with Harbor Freight, and he was excited to tell us all about the latest for this Calabasas, California-based company. “This ICON Storage Line is something we have been working on for quite some time and we are thinking people will love it,” Sharp said. “We wanted to offer a professional-grade set of tools and boxes for those looking for better quality stuff but we aren’t losing our cheaper options.”

ICON Storage Line

“These new ICON boxes are a modular storage system and they are designed to be durable and last through everyday use. Each of the slides is rated for 265-pounds and double slided doors can hold up to 530-pounds. The slide-out drawers in these boxes also feature adjustable detents which allow you to adjust the force it takes to slide the drawer out,” Sharp said. “On top of these features, we realized electronics are becoming more and more important for techs and we’ve capitalized.”

What Sharp means by this is the ICON boxes and their easy access power on the face of the boxes and on the inside. That’s right, you’ve got ready to go power outlets, A/C and USB, at your service. Inside the charging drawer for power tools, you have six outlets with A/C and USB too. You literally have connections everywhere.

“The boxes’ drawers are 18-gauge material and the shells are 16-gauge. Underneath each drawer is beefy stiffeners that ensures nothing will deform or defect over time no matter the stress. Also, each drawer can be keyed alike and you can build and configure these ICON boxes as you wish,” Sharp stated. They start out in roll cabs in 36, 56, and 73-inch wide boxes and come in four colors. Red, Blue, Black, and Green and Harbor Freight is offering free delivery on any item and a lifetime warranty.

We’re thankful that Mr. Sharp was there to fill us in on all of the details and if you’re a Harbor Freight user already, you can probably agree that these new ICON labeled boxes look amazing. Hopefully, we can get our hands on a box and see how well they last! For more information about the ICON boxes, be sure and check out the Harbor Freight website right here.
