While visiting the Flowmaster booth at SEMA, there was one vehicle that got a bit of attention. Not quite ready to be driven, it was a build in progress that hosted an impressive list of parts from Flowmaster, Hurst Shifters, and B&M Racing and Performance. The car in question was this 1969 Camaro being built by Cotati Speed Shop in Santa Rosa, Ca.

While the car itself has become known to the shop as the “1-800 Camaro” because of all the sourcing of parts for this build, there were a couple phone numbers that were used for the heart of the beast. Flowmaster took care of the exhaust duties, from the 409S stainless steel scavenger headers, to the very cool custom exhaust tip at the end, and everything in between. The headers area new product this year for Flowmaster, and Cotati Speed Shop welded up the stainless steel pipes to the Super 44 mufflers.

Also underneath the car, the complete driveline came from Hurst Driveline Conversions. When you’re in need of a complete transformation from the old to the new, Hurst can get your conversion handled. The Tremec T-56 Magnum six-speed is mated up to the GM Performance LS376 crate engine. Hurst Driveline Conversions provided everything needed in the Elite Kit. This kit includes the bell housing, clutch and flywheel, electrical and speedometer cables, the trans mount and crossmember, driveshaft and all needed hardware to make the installation a breeze. Inside the car, the Hurst Nitro Stick handles the shifting duties.

With boxes of parts and a drawing to work from, this Camaro was the epitome of what a SEMA build is all about: cars built with parts that are readily available for purchase from vendors at the show. With Flowmaster, B&M and Hurst expanding their coverage to both new and old, it’s no wonder why their presence is known in both performance and classic car circles.

We talked with Nate Shelton, Chief marketing Officer for Flowmaster/B&M/Hurst about this project car, and he said, “We’re excited to help with this car and to see many of our new products installed. As a company, we’re focusing on getting back to our roots, and supporting builds like this.”

If Shelton’s name sounds familiar, it’s probably because he’s been involved with SEMA for over a decade and was the Chairman for SEMA in 2001/02. This past June, he became the first person to be elected for a second time and will be the Chairman of SEMA for 2013. This is an honor that he takes very seriously, as evidenced by how often we saw him at the booth, taking the time to shake hands and talk with everyone who greeted him.

Building a car like this takes time, and we plan to follow up on the build and bring you more information as it progresses.
