In our world, power makes the world go around. So, while at the SEMA Show, we were on the lookout for anything new and exciting. We happened to come across Snow Performance’s booth and noticed quite a bit of new stuff. We talked with Matt Snow, Owner of Snow Performance and asked him to give us the rundown on what’s new.
“We are trying to give more bang for the buck and add more features into our controller,” explained Snow as he showed us their new hybrid controller. The Power-Max controller is able to control two nozzles independently. The gauge is able to be activated by boost pressure and the interface shows graphically how much water is being injected. The display can change colors to match your current gauges and is the size of a standard gauge, (2 1/16) so it will fit in most gauge pods.
The Power-Max is able to self-diagnose and is able to be retrofitted into current system. If you are in competition and/or somewhere where you need instant injection, the new controller has a purge button which turns the pump on for 3 seconds to prime everything.
Another great refinement/upgrade Snow Performance did was to upgrade their wiring connectors. They are all plug and play harnesses with weather tight seals. To make installation easier, they color coded the wires to easily identify which plugs go where.
Storage
There are two new tanks available this year. For the trucks, there is a 10 gallon tank that fits under the railing of the bed, completely inside of the wheel well. So, you don’t lose any useable width of the bed. For the cars, Snow Performance has introduced a 3 gallon all in one fuel cell. The fuel cell, has been molded with a cavity for the pump to be mounted to it. So, the only thing under the hood that needs to be mounted is the solenoid, wires and nozzles.
Boots
To make installation easier on boost applications, Snow Performance is introducing a line of couplers that have threaded ends already installed in them. These 4 ply boots are rated for 65 psi and have two threaded ends to plumb the nozzles into.
Systems:
This is one of the only horsepower upgrades on the market for the slightly underpowered EcoDiesel. This 50 state legal water methanol system can add up to 50 horsepower. Snow mentioned that the system will actually reduce the NOx and Soot emissions and reduce the regen cycles. That is pretty exciting news to us. More power and better fuel economy!
A completely new mapping system had to be developed for the EcoBoost. No longer is the controller just looking at boost pressure and operating. What Snow Performance found during testing is that boost is only half of the game. The other half is how much fuel pressure the truck is running. The new system is designed to be activated by both boost and fuel pressure.
In addition to the standard installation kit, the Snow Performance EcoBoost kit comes with a plate to mount the nozzles after the throttle body. During testing, they found that not all of the throttle bodies are sealed and if any liquid pools up, the throttle position sensor could short out.
Snow Performance has been really focused on introducing new products and refining their current products to make the installation easier and the final product better.
