SEMA 2014: Manage Heat With Heatshield Products

Power; it is a simple concept. We want our engines to make more of it with less fuel. With a deep enough pocketbook, you can almost buy any amount of power you want.

Heat is a byproduct of power. No matter how deep your pocketbook is, you cannot truly control heat. What you do have the ability to do, is manage heat. That is where Heatshield Products comes in.

IMG_2322Heatshield Products makes a wide range of products to manage heat. During this year’s SEMA Show, they were displaying their new Stealth Shield. “It is really the only truly engineered solution for heat management inside of the engine compartment,” said Steve Heye, Vice President of Heatshield Products.

The Stealth Shield uses a proprietary technology that was developed for their welding blankets. Basically, it is an 1/8 of an inch thick cloth that doesn’t conduct heat. The Stealth Shield is capable of withstanding 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit (F)!  At the booth, a small piece of the Stealth Shield was mounted on a rack and a handheld blow torch was mounted a few inches away. They would light the torch and then put their hand against the back of the cloth.

The Stealth Shield is designed to line the inside of your vehicle to help keep the interior temperatures down. Due to how thin the Stealth Shield is, you can actually place it on top of the sound dampener and just under the carpet. It can, also, be used to line the roof with adhesive spray.

Another cool product they were exhibiting is their Header Armor. While this has been out for a few months, it is still an extremely exciting new product for all of you running headers. The Header Armor is design to knock down engine bay temperatures while not fully encasing the header. “Our Header Armor won’t void a header’s warranty like a wrap will,” mentioned Heye.

Most header manufacturers state something along the lines that if the headers are full wrapped, the warranty is void. The Header Armor only wraps the header about 75 percent on the outside tubes and a little less than 50 percent for the center pipes.

The Header Armor can be put on as a full sheet or cut to follow just a few primaries depending on how the spark plug wires are run.

It is a multi-layer product with a very think sheet of aluminum on the outside. This aluminum not only helps to reflect heat, but is helps the Header Armor keep its shape. The aluminum is very thin and can be cut with regular scissors, but it is thick enough to hold the shape that it is formed into. The Header Armor is designed to withstand 1800 degrees F with intermittent bursts to 2200 degrees F.

These are only two of the many products within Heatshield Products impressive catalog of heat management products. If you are tired of getting hot, check out their website here.
