MSD Performance has always had a strong presence at the SEMA show, but 2014 was above and beyond, with a slew of new products on display. The highlight of this year’s additions to their expansive catalog were new intake manifolds for Gen III/IV LS and Gen V LT engines, their first venture into the manifold business. These polymer intakes feature a two-piece design, making the runners accessible both inside the plenum and where they meet the head for easy porting, should you choose, and they incorporate injector bosses for simple installation of direct port nitrous nozzles.

If we’re not mistaken, this is the first LT1 aftermarket manifold on the market. If we ARE mistaken, we’re sure somebody will correct us in the comments…

The LS versions are designed to work with factory fuel rails, incorporating a provision for the crossover, and when Lingenfelter Performance Engineering compared the MSD Atomic Airforce manifold against a leading aftermarket manifold on one of their hot-rodded LS7 powerplants, they gained a whopping 36 additional rear wheel horsepower and 16 pound-feet of torque. No word on dyno results for the LT version, but you can be sure that as soon as we can get our hands on one to test, we’ll bring you the results.

Of course, MSD is best-known for their ignition products, and this year’s expansion of their line included new parts for coil-per-plug applications in three different ranges of performance. Looking to replace the stock coils on your street-driven late model car or truck? MSD’s Street Fire coils offer affordability, durability, and performance. Step up to the MSD line for race-ready ignition coils, or if you’re really making big power and need to keep the fire lit, choose the Pro Power coils that deliver 30% more spark energy as well as the integrated multiple spark feature that made MSD famous. All three are being made available for Ford, GM, and Chrysler late model V8 engines with multiple coils.

Finally, we got a good look at MSD’s new line of spark plugs at this year’s show as well. Over the past few years, we’ve seen a lot of “gimmick” spark plugs hit the market, with eccentric designs and physics-defying performance claims. You won’t get any of that from MSD – their plugs are simply top-quality iridium resistor-style pieces designed specifically to work with high-output ignition systems. MSD has a pretty good handle on what racers and street performance enthusiasts need as well, so these plugs will cover a very wide range of high performance engine applications, with multiple heat ranges available for those running forced induction or nitrous.
